Morandé Adventure, a portfolio of free and played wines

One of the great milestones of Viña Morandé in its early years was the creation of a line of wines called “Aventura” by the visionary oenologist Pablo Morandé. Far ahead of his time, Pablo sought to highlight the unknown diversity of terroirs in Chile, as well as to value the ancient vines of the Secano Interior vineyards in the Maule and Itata regions, as well as the little-known varieties traditionally grown there.

More than 10 years later, together with the winemaking team of Viña Morandé, made up of Daniela Salinas, Cristián Carrasco and Jorge Martínez, we resumed this project giving life to the current portfolio of Adventure wines, which consists of 9 labels

For us, they are free wines, made by hand, that seek to show the diversity of terroirs and varieties from all over Chile. Thanks to the wide range that we have of valleys and vines in our country, we are allowed to make wines outside the traditional national wine offer.

The portfolio is made up of Despechado, it is a 100% honest Pinot Noir, without makeup. The winemaker Daniela Salinas seeks with him to achieve the best expression of the grapes, obtaining a wine of great typicity and freshness. Fermented in cement eggs with 50% whole bunches, this is an intensely fruity Pinot Noir, faithful to the climate of the Casablanca Valley.

Bestiario, is a breakthrough wine, born with the idea of breaking schemes, proposing a white wine made as if it were a red, which opens a new taste dimension. A different oenological proposal, made in cement eggs from non-traditional varieties in Chile such as Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier.

For its part, Tirazis, from the Casablanca Valley, is proof of the great potential that the Syrah variety can achieve in cold climates, inspiring us to produce a wine of great elegance and complexity, capable of displaying its almost stony structure. and granite. A complex and fresh wine at the same time.

Creole is a wine produced with the Cinsault and País strains, two varieties strongly rooted in the culture and tradition of the Center-South of Chile, coming from old vines of the Secano Interior of Itata. Carbonic maceration in cement eggs explores the potential of these varieties so deeply rooted in the Chilean countryside.

Gran Petit represents Viña Morandé’s commitment to two little-explored vines, characterized by their intensity and structure: Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot, which today find their splendor at the foot of the foothills of the Cachapoal valley, in the La Moralina vineyard. They give life to a floral, deep and juicy wine, with an abundant and generous structure.

Another wine that makes up this portfolio is El Padre, a Cabernet Franc from the Maipo Valley whose objective is to honor this variety and demonstrate the great potential it has, through a complex wine, with great structure and a very particular elegance. For its part, Antiguas Raíces was born out of interest in showing the potential of the Maule climate for Mediterranean varieties such as Garnacha, also playing through the co-fermentation of red and white vines to create a novel blend with a very clear personality: a wine eminently fruity, with a marked presence of red fruit, great acidity and freshness.

Aterciopelado, a blend of 80% País and 20% Malbec, pays tribute to the old Terciopelo cauquenino rescuing the País strain, seeking to bring it to an expression of greater elegance, balance and body, thanks to the presence of Malbec in the blend, showing the great potential that it has for the creation of more complex wines. It is a wine with velvety tannins, balanced acidity and very seductive.

Finally, Colinas de Ránquil is the latest wine to join the portfolio. It is a 100% wine from an old vineyard of the País strain, from the Itata Valley. Explore the quality potential of this strain, with good structure, well-defined tannins and slight touches of sweet spices such as cinnamon. With Colinas de Ránquil, what we seek is to show the extraordinary terroirs present in Chile, those that create unique wines with a deep sense of origin.
