CABERNET SAUVIGNON FROM VIÑA MORANDÉ: RESPECT FOR THE PLACE AND THE VARIETY

Subjectivity rules when determining the quality of a wine, however, there are certain concepts and generalized criteria that help us find a common balance point.

One of them is related to the quality of Cabernet Sauvignon in Chile in alluvial soils and in general, in warm-temperate climates that have sufficient temperature but not excessive.

Everything said is very general, because you must go to the specificity of each terroir in order to be more exhaustive. At Morandé we have long ago defined our reference points with Cabernet: For our highest value wines, the Maipo is a must! It assures us typicity, rather austere fruit, which translates into fineness and structure, with its consequent longevity once in the bottle.

For our portfolio of Reserva wines, which are more varietal, we look for direct and living fruit and a structure that allows us to deliver an easy-drinking wine that is ready earlier, which implies having softer tannins from the start, living fruit that manifests itself immediately in the glass and does not need a couple of years to be at its best. For this, we resort to our vineyards in the Maule Valley, with its granitic soils, red clay, with rainier winters than Maipo, but with higher summer temperatures, which allows us to achieve these characteristics in good shape.

Our cabernets are characterized -all of them- by seeking above all typicity of the variety, identity of place, which is non-negotiable in our Reserva and superior wines. Another indisputable hallmark of our wines is their freshness, a combination of volume and verticality in the mouth, thanks to a present and balanced acidity, as well as the use of wood, supported using aging foudres that contributes and enhances the wine, but is never dominant.

Cabernet Sauvignon is undoubtedly the king of wines, and its characteristics allow a variety of styles, which in Morandé translates into respect for the place and the variety. A commitment that we carry in our DNA and that we have had since Morandé became Morandé.
